What grade of steel is Corten?

The original COR-TEN® received the standard designation A 242 ("COR-TEN® A") from the ASTM International standards group. Newer ASTM grades are A 588 ("COR-TEN® B") and A606 for thin sheet. All alloys are in common production and use.

Is weathering steel the same as corten steel?

The terms “weathering steel” and “cor-ten” are often confused and used interchangeably because they are essentially the same thing. Weathering steel is the generic name while Cor-Ten® is the United States Steel Corporation's trade name for atmospheric corrosion resistant steel.
