"Hot rolling" is a process that is carried out with heat. Hot rolling is a rolling process in which steel is rolled at a temperature higher than its recrystallization temperature.
Exposure to such high temperatures makes it easier to shape the steel and thus makes the product easier to process. For sheet metal, the rolled steel is spun into coils and cooled. The steel shrinks slightly as it cools, so there is less control over the size and shape of the finished product. Hot rolled steel is less suitable for precision applications, but is ideal where dimensional tolerances and surface finish are not critical issues. Hot rolled steel coils have been developed to bridge the gap between affordable, quality steel products.
