Grade 409L (UNS S40900, EN 1.4512) is a stable version of 409 consisting of the appropriate chromium, low carbon and nitrogen compositions and titanium additives, all of which apply to Grade 409L for a wide range of properties, corrosion resistance, weldability and formability. Due to its low chromium content, grade 409L is a low-cost alternative to corrosion-resistant stainless steels.
Grade 409L offers a good combination of heat and corrosion resistance and is well suited for non-corrosive or mildly corrosive environments or applications. Excellent high temperature oxidation resistance and good weldability for automotive exhaust or petroleum equipment.
